Reports are forecasting close to 2 million job losses in 2009. This year looks like it's going to be difficult, but it's not the first time this industry has gone through a rough job market. As the stress of the recession grows, it's easy to start taking things personally. You may think that getting laid off or passed over for a position is an attack on your identity. Don't fall into that trap. You have nothing to gain by personalizing your problems.
Instead, be realistic and honest about the cause of your problem. Even if there is a personal issue, work towards a solution in a businesslike manner.
• If you've lost your job, start looking now. Job hunting is your new job.
• If you haven't found a job yet, carefully evaluate your strategy. What changes can you make? Are you lacking proper training?
• If you have a job, you need to be ready for it to disappear tomorrow. Get your resume, portfolio and certifications in order before you need them...
